Access control becomes one component of a broader physical security ecosystem.

That can provide significant operational advantages for organizations that need to correlate information across multiple systems.

The trade-off is complexity.

A unified enterprise security platform requires more planning around:

  • Server architecture
  • Network design
  • Directory and server roles
  • Licensing
  • Database architecture
  • Redundancy
  • Integrations
  • System administration
  • Operator training

So the question isn’t simply “Which platform has more features?”

The better question is:

In these situations, the additional complexity of Security Center can become an advantage rather than a disadvantage.

Kantech vs Genetec: Questions to Ask Before Choosing

Rather than asking “Which system is better?”, I recommend asking these questions first:

1. Is this access control only?

If the answer is yes, a dedicated access control platform such as EntraPass may be the more straightforward solution.

2. Will video and access control need to work together?

If the organization wants unified video and access control operations, Security Center deserves serious consideration.

3. How many sites are involved?

A single building and a geographically distributed enterprise can have very different architectural requirements.

4. What hardware is already installed?

Existing controllers, readers, cameras, servers, and network infrastructure can have a major impact on the best platform choice.

5. What does the organization already use?

Standardizing across sites can sometimes be more valuable than switching to a platform that looks better on paper.

6. What does the IT environment look like?

A more sophisticated security platform requires appropriate planning, infrastructure, networking, administration, and technical expertise.

7. What will the system look like five years from now?

This is one of the questions I would ask before making the final decision.

A system that works perfectly for today’s requirements may become difficult to manage if the organization grows significantly.

Kantech EntraPass vs Genetec Security Center: Which Is Better?

There isn’t a universal winner.

Kantech EntraPass can be an excellent choice for organizations primarily looking for access control with a straightforward deployment and strong integration with the Kantech ecosystem.

Genetec Security Center is particularly compelling for organizations that need a unified, scalable physical security platform combining access control with video and other security technologies.

The mistake I see most often isn’t necessarily choosing the “wrong” manufacturer.

It’s choosing a platform based on familiarity rather than project requirements.

A good security integrator should be able to look at the client’s current environment, future requirements, infrastructure, budget, and operational goals and explain why one architecture makes more sense than another.

That’s ultimately more valuable than simply knowing how to program either platform.

Final Thoughts

Having worked with both Kantech EntraPass and Genetec Security Center — and holding certifications in both — I don’t see this as a simple question of which platform is better.

They’re tools designed around different approaches to physical security.

EntraPass emphasizes access control simplicity and the Kantech ecosystem. Security Center emphasizes unified security operations, integration, and enterprise-scale architecture.

Understanding that distinction is what allows an integrator to recommend the right platform instead of simply recommending the platform they happen to know best.
